        • Green Home - CSO of the Week

          10 May 2012
Active in environmental preservation and protection, biodiversity conservation and implementation of the sustainable development principles

Green Home is a Montenegrin CSO based in Podgorica. It was founded by graduated students of biology in 2000, as a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization. The organization appeared from the need that more citizens participate in environmental protection and conservation, in order to take an active role in civil society development through the respect for biodiversity and efforts for sustainable development.

In order to fulfil this needs, Green Home developed two operational programmes whose impact is multiplied by their interaction:

          • Programme for the environmental protection with the aim to promote, educate and support local and regional initiatives in nature protection and conservation and sustainable use of natural resources
          • Programme for energy with the aim to promote, educate and support local and regional initiatives on energy efficiency and use of alternative energy sources.

Green Home is directly involved in the coordination of two NGO local networks: Natura 2000 Info Centre and Green Resource Centre where it acts as a technical secretariat for 37 environmental NGOs. Apart from the national level, Green Home is a member of regional networks: Bells, SEENET and SEA Change.

Since 2000, Green Home has worked with more than 150 environmental organizations, while more than 3000 individuals have taken part in its training programmes and approximately 200 institutions have been reached by at least one of its varied initiatives.

Green Home joined the Montenegrin CSO network Climate Response because of its two qualities: networking and the inclusion of all segments of society: governmental institutions, civil society and business sector, which is an essential component in solving the problem of climate change.

As a network member, the organization took part in the roundtables and workshops organized by the Montenegro Red Cross. In addition, Green Home provided its opinion and the information for the national Climate Vulnerability Assessment. Green Home promotes activities that can lead to climate change mitigation and suggests action plans for climate change adaptation to decision makers.
