In September 2012, the Macedonian Red Cross and its network “Climate Reaction” started an awareness raising initiative with the main aim to inform the wider public about the necessity of climate change adaptation in order to reduce socio-economic losses and prevent health problems that may result from high temperatures or sudden cold waves.

The first event of this awareness raising series was initiated by the network member Zona Kavadarci, an NGO active in the field of health and social care. On 17 September 2012 the NGO organized a theater play in the primary school Toshe Velkov-Pepeto entitled “Talking to planet Earth”.

Participating actors, such as Dime Kocevski, Petar Mladenov and Boban Ilievski, tried to provide an understanding for the serious consequences of climate change and guided pupils through the climate change adaptation concept.

The performance was well-attended, by pupils, teachers and parents, as well as by the school principal, Mrs. Jovanka Shkartova, CSO representatives from Macedonia (DEM and Grashnica from Ohrid) and the Macedonian Red Cross. Two local TV stations were also present and provided media coverage.
